AU Staff Men’s Soccer team receive timely donation as they prepare for Mutare Professionals League Tournament

On the 24th of July 2019, the Africa University Staff Sports Association Men’s Team received a boon in their preparations for the Mutare Professionals League Tournament after receiving a donation from Professor Munashe and Dr. Zanele Furusa of a complete goal keeper’s kit, soccer ball and first aid kit. Mr. Biggie Maingehama and Mr.Oliver Marimbire received the donation of behalf of the Association and were ecstatic at the level of support and items received. Mr. Maingehama the AU Staff Sports Association President (and Accounting Assistant in the university Business Office) said, “We are grateful for the support we get from the Vice Chancellor and his family as staff, it truly humbles us, it is important to note that this is not the first time that the Furusa family have done this for us.”
Professor and Dr. Furusa have previously donated to the same team a complete branded sports kit and also donated a kit for the women’s Netball team as they competed in the regional universities sports games hosted in Limpopo, South Africa in December 2018.
Mr. Maingehama went on to add, “We promise that in our use of these donated items, it will be for the benefit of Africa University and its community. This donation has come at just the right time as we will be competing on the 27th of July 2019 at Marymount Teachers’ College in the Mutare Professionals League Tournament where we aspire to raise the university flag high.”
Mr. Marimbirire who is one of the university’s executive drivers and also coach of the men’s soccer team said, “I am honoured to work so closely with Professor Furusa as his personal driver and I am constantly inspired by his generosity and willingness to assist in various causes.”
Speaking to the upcoming tournament Mr. Marimbire expressed confidence in his teams’ preparedness and ability to rise to the top. “We are disciplined, we have put in the hours in our practise and it is high time that we bring a trophy home to our university! Come what may in the way of the competitiveness of our opposing teams, we will do our best. It will be of great comfort to my team to know that in the event of injuries, which are highly probable in a contact sport such as soccer, they play knowing the best medical facilities are available when needed and the medical aid kit that contains everything we will require guarantees this.”
The Mutare Professionals Soccer League Mid- Season Tournament in which the team will participate on the 27th of July 2019 is aimed at promoting business synergies, socialization, and physical well-being through sport. Entities from the banking, manufacturing, higher education, technology, non- governmental and energy sectors as well as professionals from legal and health fraternities will compete.
