Africa University Graduates Largest Class in its History
On 11 June 2016, Africa University graduated 841 students, the largest class ever graduated in the history of the University since its inception in 1992. Fifty four percent (54%) of the graduating class of 2016 were female, a clear indication of the University's commitment to empower women in Africa. Twenty-two African Countries were represented in the graduating class. The lively event took place at Africa University Main Campus in Mutare. In attendance were senior government officials, members of the diplomatic community, sponsors, donors and partners of Africa University .
Representing the Minister in the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Permanent Secretary Ambassador Machivenyika Mapuranga noted that he was pleased that the Faculties and Institute from which the students are receiving their credentials are all units which are all critical to Zimbabwe and to Africa. The Permanent Secretary also expressed his appreciation for Africa University's continued efforts to realise the objectives of the Zimbabwe's Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimASSET) as well as the University's efforts towards the Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) campaign.
Guest of Honor and Key Note Speaker, Mr. Shingai Mutasa of Masawara Private Limited delivered a moving address, calling on graduands to be true to themselves, answering their call to duty with passion and determination and to have faith in God. Mr. Mutasa encouraged the graduands to believe in themselves and believe in achieving their dreams.
Africa University Vice Chancellor, Professor Munashe Furusa, warmly inducted the Class of 2016 into Africa University's vibrant Alumni Association, which continues to make a difference throughout the continent and beyond. The University now boasts of a global network of more than 6000 alumni who occupy various positions of leadership in Africa and all over the world.
Since its inception, Africa University has continuously contributed to the African continent and the world by graduating potential leaders. The 22nd ceremony for the conferment of degrees marks a historical point in the existence of Africa University.
