Africa University moves up in its world ranking
04 July 2017
Africa University (AU) has been ranked the second-best University in Zimbabwe by Webometrics Ranking of the World Universities in their most recent rankings, released end of June this year. The recent ranking affirms the growth of the institution over the past 25 years where the university has significantly grown in the areas of teaching, learning and research.
A more focused Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) approach has seen the University engage in collaborative partnerships with research institutions, national government, the private sector and civil society. The introduction of more Phd programmes towards the end of last year re-enforced the research culture and reputation of the University, impacting on the quality of research outgrowths and citations per faculty.
Africa University offers a world class learning experience through its richness in student/staff diversity and its international outlook. More than thirty different countries are represented at AU which creates a very diverse global pool from which new ideas; perspectives and solutions are realized and put into practice.
Furthermore to induce high impact learning, classes at the University have an impressive lecturer to student ratio of 1: 20, complemented by highly skilled and internationally accredited lecturers and experts. Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (Web Rankings), the largest academic ranking of Higher Education Institutions in the world, is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) which is the largest public research body in Spain. Web Rakings’ ratings are based on measuring the impact and prestige of a university’s scholarly research and its commitment to disseminating research outcomes.
