The outgoing Student Representative Council of the 2018/19 Academic Year led by Mr. Brian Sichula form Zambia officially opened the newly installed student car park shades on Wednesday the 10th of May 2019. The shades are a new facility that will provide all weather protection for Africa University student’s vehicles. The ceremony was officiated by the Africa University Vice Chancellor Professor Munashe Furusa. The Africa University Student Representative Council though an independent body, receives tremendous support from the University administration and this was exhibited by the Vice Chancellor’s presence and support of the initiative.

He spoke at the event saying,

“The incoming student’s leadership will consider the strong foundation of leadership that you have built for them. You have set the bar in relation to the values and integrity in public service and it is my hope that they (incoming SRC 2019/20)  and other students are learning from your example.”

Also praised was the SRC’s harmonious working relationship during its year of tenure with the University administration. The outgoing SRC leaves the Student Union of Africa University in a position of strength and continuity. AU strives to create a breeding ground for leaders through assisting and providing opportunities for the student body to immerse themselves in positions that require discipline and a high standard of leadership ethic.

The outgoing SRC president Mr Brian Sichula commented saying,

“I realised that leadership is about making a difference in the lives of others, it is about creating something that is of benefit and meaning to others”

The project showed the many facets of the calibre of leadership that Africa University is endowed with, highlighting that it is not too late to make a difference for the people one represents and that it leadership requires selflessness and dedicated action to better the wellbeing of the people whom we serve which is in tandem with Africa University’s mantra, “Leaders are made here.”
