Reporting directly to the Warden, the Assistant Warden is responsible for dealing with enquiries and problems relating to campus accommodation. The Assistant Warden will ensure all properties used by AU students who are staying on campus adhere to the University’s code of standards, deals with any areas where this is not the case, holds regular meetings with students and compiles periodic reports on the operations of the Assistant Wardens’ Office for the Warden.

Desired Attributes:

  • First degree and qualifications in Education or Social Sciences
  • A qualification in Counselling would be an added advantage
  • Must be a mature person who can demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicts
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ relevant experience working in a tertiary institution
  • Experience in dealing with a multicultural community would be an added advantage

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the allocation of accommodation to students and visitors in the halls of residence.
  • Provide psychosocial support and counselling to students
  • Ensuring that facilities are well looked after and repaired on time.
  • Instituting Halls of Residence Committees.
  • Keeping accurate records of students and assets in the Halls of Residence.
  • Supervise Sub wardens and Corridor Monitors and evaluate their performance
  • Consistently enforce the Halls of Residence rules in order to create an environment conducive to living learning.
  • Foster and promote the spirit of Pan-Africanism among the students.
  • Holds regular meetings with students and compiling periodic reports on the operations of the Assistant Wardens’ Office for the Warden.
  • Liaise with the Health Staff on matters concerning students’ health needs
